About Taos, New Mexico:

Taos Indian Pueblo has been continually inhabited for almost 1000 years. It is nestled in a valley in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and towered over by Taos Mountain. The Spanish arrived in Taos in the 1600's drawn by stories of gold. They found no gold, but smitten by the magic qualities of Taos, New Mexico they also stayed.

Artists have also found Taos so intriguingly beautiful that they have gathered together contributing to the mix of cultures. Over the years a world-renowned artists colony has been formed. Today this diverse mix of Indian, Spanish and Artists has created a magnetic draw for many people to visit and then often to relocate.

Current Taos, New Mexico Weather Taos enjoys clear skies and sunshine for most of the year with the summers being very temperate and comfortable. The average rainfall is 12 inches. There is never a bad time to visit Taos. The clean air and bright sunshine make it a wonderland for outdoor sports.

  • Taos Pueblo with its thousand years of continuous habitation is just minutes away. Many cultural festivals are open to the public in addition to daily tours.
  • The creativity of Taos is demonstrated in its wide array of restaurants ranging from to traditional Mexican located in a restored Hacienda to fine dining overlooking the mountains. Multiple fast food restaurants are also available.
  • Taos has a medical community that provides services with a well-equipped hospital and also has talented holistic physicians including by not limited to acupuncturists, chiropractors and other cutting edge healing methods.
  • Shopping 'til you drop is possible in stores displaying everything from imported African furniture, beautiful rugs from the Far East, and of course wonderful Mexican imports. Many stores also carry one-of-a kind locally manufactured goods.
  • Lots of great yoga studios and a fully equipped health and fitness center are located in Taos.
  • Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is less than an hour from Taos- Discovered in the 16th century it has natural hot springs of arsenic, lithium, soda and iron as well as mud baths and massages. Or just climb down a short path to the Rio Grande River and join the locals in a rustic abandoned hot springs about 15 minutes from Taos Plaza.
